An interesting but truly insane story of David Vann, who built a 27m charter yacht in Turkey ten years ago. It was never a superyacht perhaps, but the story is well worth a read.
A couple of seasons after being launched, the yacht sank off the Virgin Islands in 2001. A superb book, available on Amazon UK and other sources.

Here is the old port in Cannes in 1944, at the moment the Axis blew up the port. If you look carefully even today, near the corner of the quay, you can still see an odd angle of steps in the water. Evidence of what happened here years ago!
See www.sudwall.superforum.fr for much more info on WW2 in the South of France.

How it used to be... A youtube film of yachting in the 1950's. Includes excellent shots of the Cannes Islands, with classic motoryachts and sailing yachts..
Click on the image for the link. The film title says Palma and Zermatt, but we have indentified Cannes also.
